Amy Faucher, a Hobokenite, was one of the few residents whose electricity was not affected by Hurricane Sandy. Upon seeing the desperation and flooding in her town, she and her family opened their home to friends, neighbors, and total strangers. They established a coffee and charging station on their front stoop.
In retrospect, she was surprised by her community's quick response time and boundless compassion. "I was surprised to see all the volunteers helping out in Hoboken. They were doing everything from sorting food to distributing diapers."
